Across Wiradjuri country in the Riverina, we listened and gathered stories and soundscapes in free workshops in four stunning and resonant community spaces.
We created site specific drama with spoken word and sound under the theme EMBRACE, engaging young women in storytelling and theatre in beautiful rural halls and community arts centres. We began with sound walks and gathered responses, building them into stories and drama pieces in the local hall.
The workshops took place in Tarcutta, Currawarna, Cootamundra and North Wagga. The workshops were specially designed to explore dramatic ideas, learn skills, develop storytelling and expression, boost confidence, and above all have fun with other women in the community.
Supported by the NSW Government Create NSW Holiday Break Program, delivered in partnership with the Office of Regional Youth, Eastern Riverina Arts and Oddball Theatre. Supported by Aunty Cheryl Penrith and Cootamundra Arts Centre, Currawarna Community Centre, Tarcutta Memorial Hall and North Wagga Hall.
Voices of Women acknowledges the Wiradjuri people as the Traditional Owners of country in the Riverina where we tell stories and create performances. We acknowledge Traditional Owners throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
