Ryde Connections//Sambandha

What’s your story?

Do you love writing, telling stories, and connecting with other women? All Ryde women are invited to join in storymaking workshops and a presentation of stories.

The Voices of Women workshops are a fun and creative way to bring the community together, connect, share and feel inspired by your own creativity. Suitable for women of all ages, we explore and develop short stories in an active environment, that does not require any previous experience or literacy levels.

The workshops are great for women of all ages (generally over 18) who want to express themselves creatively, have a story to tell, or want to meet others, or have fun writing or learning about acting and filming stories.

This program celebrates the joy and connection of the female perspective and is focussed on developing self esteem, confidence and identity which comes with women learning new creative skills and being empowered to share their story and connect with others.

With a focus on the South Asian Community, this project supports diversity and connection, including with the recognition of our past and importance of the Wallumedegal clan of the Darug people who are the traditional owners of the City of Ryde area. It welcomes all women, and female identifying people, who want to share and connect.

  • Learn how to craft or create a story in a safe and creative environment
  • Join a story circle to begin and get to know other creatives
  • Have fun with sensory walks and object description
  • Listen and share stories with others
  • Publish your story on the Voices of Women podcast – read by you or an actor
  • Develop a character or a creative scene
  • Experiment with language and blend your own cultural language into your story
  • Experiment with words – like paint – break the rules! If you can talk, you can write!
